Comforting One Another: In Life's Sorrows
Karen Burton Mains
Synopsis
|
A piet... is any person or group of persons holding a broken body in death
or near death. In Comforting One Another, Mains says piet...s are formed whenever we hold another
person who is facing life's sorrows. And in our troubled times piet...s are everywhere, from
Michaelangelo's masterpiece sculpture of Mary cradling the body of Christ to the picture of the
emergency worker carrying the child out of the Oklahoma City bomb wreckage. Mains reveals her own
experience in suffering, how looking to the Cross puts all trials into perspective, how pain can be
used to taste the deep mercy of Christ, and how that mercy can be extended to those around you who
are also suffering.
