This is the third edition, and has important new material on the mourning process. The result is an amplification of the dual issues of shock mastery, and reschematization of identity that helps people work through traumas and losses. The chapter on therapeutics is entirely revised. Theory is presented, and the larger framework is found in another book by me: Cognitive Psychodynamics, published by Wiley.
