Uncle Jerry Has AIDS
Jim Boulden
Synopsis
Reading Level: Elementary School Age
|
This AIDS awareness book provides an age appropriate way to inform children
about the disease in a realistic yet nonthreatening manner. KT shares the story
of her interactions with her Uncle Jerry, who suffers from AIDS. She expresses
the fears and feelings children experience when confronted with this life-threatening
illness. Uncle Jerry does not address the sexual aspects of AIDS transmission since
that is not an issue with this age group. The book is accepted broadly in even the most
conservative communities. It is directed toward resolving uninformed prejudices and
attitudes toward people suffering from AIDS and has received the highest rating by
government agencies.
