Few capture story and Story like Barbara Brown Taylor. She has been
duly labeled THE preacher of our time, and she captures this same fervor
in her writing.
Why, God? Where is God? What difference does belief make? What good
is God? These are the questions I am asked a hundred times a day as a
chaplain and that I, as a chaplain, ask one hundred-fold. They are at
the heart of what it means to believe, and what it means to try to
believe when God is so distant, silent or non-responsive.
Taylor never offers pious platitudes or easy answers. To do so is to
offend the faith we cherish and to offend the journey we possess as
spiritual people. Come into the silences, come into the journey,
through, famine, silence and restraint.
